Policy, Advocacy, and Civic Engagement
Our Policy Agenda
AltaMed Government Relations champions nonpartisan, evidence-based domestic policy solutions that improve the economic, political, and social landscape for Latinos and other communities of color in states and localities across the U.S.
When AltaMed was established in 1969, our immediate priority was to help improve access to care with the ultimate goal of eliminating health care disparities. Over the years, we’ve broadened our scope to address everything that impacts the health of a community: access to social services, education, and awareness of the rights and responsibilities we all share in this country.
Some of our formal initiatives include:
- Protecting the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
- Health Center Funding
- Workforce Development
- Get Out the Vote
- Census 2020
The AltaMed My Vote, My HealthTM campaign mobilizes voters in the communities we serve through nonpartisan education campaigns. In 2018, we contacted more than 200,000 voters with our five-touch model and increased voter turnout by up to 400% in priority precincts.
Leadership and Advocacy Academy
AltaMed staff and community members are given the opportunity to build civic leadership skills. Our academy graduates are prepared to advocate health care priorities for the communities we serve at local, state, and federal levels.
