AltaMed has grown from a free barrio clinic in East Los Angeles to one of the nation's leading non-profit health systems, caring for more than 300,000 patients annually.
Our 35 accredited sites throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties offer a wealth of services, including medical, dental, senior care, urgent care, pharmacy, and HIV services.
As part of an independent practice association (IPA), we partner with respected medical groups, such as Children's Hospital Los Angeles, to provide affordable care with a constant focus on preventative health care and long-term wellness services.

Community Outreach
As long as health care inequality exists and there are barriers that keep people from getting the care they need, AltaMed will be there, with innovative ways to improve access to care. By partnering with our elected officials, community leaders and local businesses, AltaMed continues to expand the much-needed care, far beyond our clinic walls.

A Message From Our CEO, Cástulo de la Rocha
Welcome. Bienvenidos.
Whether you are a current employee or prospective AltaMed candidate, I’m grateful that you’ve chosen to explore the many virtues and opportunities that a career with our organization offers.
In 1977, after operating a storefront barrio clinic in East LA for nearly a decade, I saw that a critical need persisted: people in low-income neighborhoods throughout the Southland were significantly underserved by essential health resources. In fact, my own location often had a line of people around the block – and I feared these circumstances would continue unless we became proactive.
With the formation of AltaMed, a nonprofit we met a fundamental human right – quality care, without exception – and changed the face of one community, then another, until AltaMed became one of the area’s largest health care systems. Today, throughout approximately 50 medical, dental and PACE sites staffed by more than 2,800 dedicated employees, we’re able to provide compassionate care to nearly 300,000 patients a year.
This was no easy feat, and everything that we accomplished, we accomplished together. AltaMed’s high standard of “whole community” health care and consistently strong financial performance has made us an exemplar of what a community-focused health center can be. And our teams – those in our location, our corporate offices, and our communities in between – consist of the most passionate and compassionate people I’ve had the privilege of knowing.
